Bdellovibrio is a curved Gram-negative bacterium whose life cycle is predatory. Due to its flagella, Bdellovibrio rotates rapidly when contacting a prey cell, boring its way through the cell wall. It then reproduces in the space between plasma membrane and cell wall, eventually killing the cell. Its metabolism is chemoheterotrophic. Some bacteria have developed sheaths to defend against this predator.
