Mycoplasmas are pleomorphic bacteria belonging to the low G+C Gram-positives. The lack of a cell wall causes them to stain Gram-negative, though. In culture, they form colonies with a typical fried-egg appearance. Mycoplasmas include several human pathogens, including M. pneumoniae (primary atypical pneumonia). Mycoplasma also does not follow the universal genetic code: UGA = tryptophan
