Deinococcus

What you should know:

Deinococci are extremely radiation-resistant bacteria belonging to the deeply-branching Gram - negatives (Volume 1 of Bergey's Manual). Because of their unusual structure, however, they stain Gram +. Nonetheless, they have a typical Gram-negative cell wall architecture (Outer membrane, no Teichoic acid). Deinococci are chemoheterotrophs.
