Rare Diseases Class Project

Are you willing to be engaged in your community through this class? In support of Rare Disease Day and in alignment with the course learning objectives, this project will allow us to do so.

Project structure and timeline

1.    Class discussion (weekly) for project planning, setting goals, team formation and teamwork

a.    Attendance in class is required for participation

2.    Each student involved in at least one project team, which could include:

a.    Communication/publicity

b.    Scientific content

c.    Fundraising

d.    Community outreach

e.    Event planning

3.    Project should culminate with a specific event where all class members are involved

a.    Target date: early December

4.    Everyone needs to learn the most important things to know about this disease

 

Project grading

1.    Project counts for 100 points

a.    50% final event

        - should support a specific cause/group or individual

b.    50% individual assignments

                                          i.    quizzes about this disease

                                        ii.    attendance during group discussion

                                       iii.    personal statement

Research

  1. Research your disease. You may utilize internet sources as well as books, journals, newspaper articles and research papers. 
  2. Print out one research article (full text) and bring it with you to your meeting with me.
