Whooping cough

Introduction. 

Whooping cough is primarily a respiratory infection caused by Bordetella pertussis. However, toxin production leads to toxemia, which can cause systemic symptoms. Infections are characterized by coughing paroxysms (several rapid forceful coughs, followed by a forced whoop-like inhalation).
