Candidiasis

Introduction. 

Candidiasis is an opportunistic infection by Candida albicans and othe Candida species that are members of the normal human microbiota. Candidiasis can manifest itself in various forms: external (skin & mucous membranes), chronic infections, and systemic infections. Oral candidiasis (thrush) is common in AIDS, whereas disseminated candidiasis is seen in immunosuppressed patients. Vaginosis often results from the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics.
