Lactobacillus is a Gram - positive regular, non-sporing rod. It is a chemoheterotroph carrying out homolactic acid fermentation. It is a common inhabitant of the human body and helps to prevent yeast infections in women due to the acidity produced in the vagina. It can also be found in milk products such as yogurt and is often sold as a probiotic.
